After working with glass pipes and accessories for years, I have found that these practical details normally matter more than buying the accessory with the longest feature list.

Choose Accessories by the Job You Need Done

I normally start with function. A grinder should match the size and number of chambers you actually want. A pocket scale should clearly state its capacity and readability. Maintenance accessories are the same way. A simple adjustable pipe reamer has a very different job from Daisy glass pipe screens . Clear product dimensions and compatibility are more useful than vague words such as premium or professional.

If you are replacing or upgrading an everyday accessory, check the construction before the artwork. For a grinder, look at the number of pieces, teeth, threads, magnetic lid and material. For pipe screens, check the bowl opening and choose a size that fits without being forced into the glass. For cleaning tools, choose the least aggressive tool that can do the job rather than using a sharp household object around glass.

I have found that regular light maintenance is usually easier than waiting until a pipe or accessory becomes heavily clogged. After seeing a lot of different accessories over the years, my checklist has become fairly simple. I look at what problem the accessory solves, whether the dimensions or compatibility are clearly stated, how difficult it will be to clean, and whether the design adds something useful rather than just another moving part.
