After handling different tobacco pipes over the years, I have found that the most useful things to compare are the stem shape, overall length, bowl style and material. A straight 4.5-inch wood pipe can feel very different from a 5-inch bent billiard even when the difference in size looks small on a screen.

Most of the pipes in this collection are traditional wood tobacco pipes, including straight-stem, bent billiard, carved and filter-ready designs. We also carry a few resin and specialty styles. I would choose the basic shape first, then compare the material and decorative details rather than doing it the other way around.

Straight vs Bent Tobacco Pipes

A straight tobacco pipe keeps the stem in a more direct line from the bowl to the mouthpiece. A bent pipe curves downward or upward through the stem and changes the way the pipe sits in the hand. Neither style is automatically better. I would choose the one that feels more natural for the way you prefer to hold a pipe.

Wood Tobacco Pipes

Wood is the main material in this collection, with rosewood-style, sandalwood and other traditional finishes. Natural wood also means color and grain can vary slightly from one pipe to another. Choosing Pipe Size

For a compact traditional pipe, many of our current wood designs fall around 4.5 to 5.5 inches. Longer styles such as Churchwarden-type pipes have a very different feel and appearance. I normally recommend checking the actual length in the product title or specifications instead of judging size only from the photo.
